BREAKING! OMFG! The sky is falling

Mon Mar 17, 2008 at 01:28:27 PM PDT

Attention everyone:  In case you did not know, and since no one else is talking about it, I suspect you haven't, but Barack Obama's campaign is completely falling apart!!!!  Did you see the polls today???  A Gallup poll has him losing to Clinton by 2%!!! Yes, a whole half of the margin of error!!! In a random sample, about 20 people prefer Clinton over Obama.  How can we possibly make up that margin the rest of the campaign?

And look at the general election..... We are trailing by 2 points to McCain as well!!!! The general election is only 6 months away! How can we possibly make up that margin in that short a period of time?? Let's just all throw in the towel and anoint John McCain as the next president.

Seriously people.  Despite the "sky is falling" mentality that people seem to have adopted today over the Wright scandal, things are not going that badly.  Yes, its been a bad couple of news cycles, and yes, the polls have shown a slight downturn over the last couple of days, but the world is not ending.  In case you forget, we are winning, and by a sizable amount.  The only event related to delegate allocation that happened since this scandal broke was the Iowa County Conventions, where Obama picked up a net of +10 delegates.  News cycles change, poll numbers fluctuate.  This is the nature of an election cycle.

The truth is, this so called "scandal" couldn't have come at a better time for us. In case you've forgot, the next election is a full 5 weeks from now.    A LOT can happen in that time.  Sure, now there are probably some soccer moms and Nascar dads who heard Wright's remarks and are running scared that President Barack Obama will make BET mandatory viewing and appoint Jay-Z as Treasury Secretary.  But guess what? Most of America has a really short attention span.  This news will dominate the headlines for a couple of days, but then something else will happen.  Some young pretty b-level actress will get a DWI, some pretty white girl will go missing, or their favorite American Idol will be voted off, and the news cycle will change.  People will get distracted, and when they go to vote in Pennsylvania, and in other states after that, their minds won't be focused on a story that broke 5 weeks ago.

I know the media currently has a hard on that Obama's black preacher once said something about race, and therefore Obama must be Louis Farrakhan, but once this dies down from the news cycle, the hysteria will end.  People will actually be able to look at this with some perspective and realize that maybe they don't always agree with everything that their own pastor says.  Maybe they'll realize that they would not want anyone censoring what their pastor had to say.  And then maybe, they'll realize it won't be that big a deal.  Or maybe they'll forget about it completely, because that David Archuleta is just so damn cute, and if his not the next American Idol, they are just going to die!

So step away from the ledge, and take a deep breath.  Things are going to be okay.
